The variation of White now playing at , and capturing Black's centre group, is shown in the Go World article as being suboptimal (#1 757) / (#2 763), because Black would be three points better off. However, this classical assessment did not take the possibility of a succeeding oki (at ) into Black's potential eye into account, re-discovered by Joachim Meinhardt, which gains a decisive amount of points for White.
