The Further Evolution of Amateurs' Knowledge
(2011 - 2014)
2012 - Capturing White's Group
on the Left Side
The longer we investigated Joachim's idea of the hiki at , described above, the greater our concern became that we had been too lax in the examination of the variation, in which Black (at the same moment in the game) captures White's stones on the left side (), with the move at shown here. |
|
In our opinion, Black can cause greater complications, if, in the ensuing sequence of moves, he defends with the diagonal move of , rather than with the simpler, and more solid , which is also shown by Cheng ( 534). |
|
This is because this diagonal move threatens the eye shape of White's group at the top centre, so that here, after White came to life in the upper left, the already-mentioned ko-formation on the right side is created with . The further development of this variation is shown above ( 363). Here too, Black will not be successful in the very end. | |
