About Hanezeki (2009; 2015)
2015: A Dormant Volcano -
The Classic Example as a Problem
This it the final position of a hanezeki, as it is given in Hayashi Genbi's 1835 Tsume-Go book "Gokyō Shumyō". It seems to be part of a certain kind of "bestiary", because on the same page of the book we also find a (final) position that shows a double-ko as a seki, as well as a (final) position that is "chōsei", eternal life. All three of these are not presented as a problem (i.e. together with a move sequence as a "solution"). |

This diagram shows a problem that can be found - with colours reversed - in several Japanese editions of Gengen Gokyō, e.g. in Go Seigen's 1980 Heibonsha edition (ISBN 4-582-80387-3). |

This diagram shows the 1349 XuanXian Qijing's version "Battle of Strength" of the problem that can be found - with colours reversed - e.g. in John Fairbairn's SmartGo Book "Gateway to All Marvels". Please note that - compared to the Japanese version - two White stones on the outside are not present, so that the cutting points in White's outside formation are all unprotected here. We will show that this might have some weird consequences. | |
