If White blocks at the other side, it results in another ko, which White cannot win. In principle, this has already been shown in the variation for ( 131).

White must connect her stone in atari, because she has no valid ko-threats.

Black connects the hanezeki's tail.

:
White captures the ko, simultaneously occupying one of Black's liberties.

Playing the approach-move at , instead, will not help either. There will be no ko, but Black is still ahead in the semeai in the corner.

:
By re-capturing the ko in the centre, Black gains a second liberty for his group.

White has still no valid ko-threats, so Black will decide the matter by giving atari at with his next move.
