Black takes the opportunity to occupy the large endgame point of , maximising his territory in the lower left corner.

Black might consider connecting at , instead, but this alternative move will not affect the overall result of the game. However, White will be better in the Semeai Variation, as Black took profit inside the Main Semeai area.
