Variations of Our Solution (IIIb)

Tricking KataGo (Triple-Ko)

VAR (C) (A) (.2) (.1)

: ( 222as)
Black pushes at the right, aiming at taking some profit before defending his upper left corner with .

:
However, White pushes into Black's top left corner.

:
Black has to block immediately.

Black could live at the right by cutting at , instead, but he should not do so.
White would attack his upper left corner with , and at least capture his five stones above, what would be sufficient for a comfortable win.

:
In order to simplify the presentation, we continue with the Main Semeai here.

Black could capture the ko with , instead, and also use his moves of the Main Semeai as ko threats.
Really fighting this ko would be useless for White, as Black could also utilise his liberty-occupying moves of the Main Semeai as ko threats. Even adding her ko threats in the upper left corner, starting with , will not be enough for White.

:
Sooner or later, White will have to connect the ko in the upper right.

Black plays 0/1 reduction.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White destroyed one point of Black's territory in the upper left corner.
  • Black's cumulated gain in the upper right corner is two points.

In total, Black gained one point.

Jigo => Black + 1

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White destroyed one point of Black's territory in the upper left corner.
  • Black destroyed three points of White's territory in the upper right corner.
  • White captured one Black stone less in the upper right corner, so losing one point.
  • White captured an additional two Black stones at the right edge, so gaining four points.

In total, Black lost one point.

Black + 1 => Jigo
