Please note that she could have delayed this entire sequence until after her decision point.
Black is par with the Punishment Semeai Liberty Level, and so unable to start any action outside the Main Semeai area.

Black must not play any reduction.

After her decision point, White will block at at the upper edge.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black's cumulated gain in the upper left is two points.
  • White captured Black's stone in the lower left, so gaining two points.

In total, gains and losses compensate for each other.

White + 2 => White + 2

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black's cumulated gain in the upper left is two points.
  • White captured Black's stone in the lower left, so gaining two points.

In total, gains and losses compensate for each other.
