  • Black destroyed three points of White's territory in the upper right corner.
  • Black destroyed one point of White's territory in the upper right corner, but White got an additional one in the centre, so the net effect is zero.

In total, White lost one point.

White + 6 => White + 5

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White destroyed two points of Black's territory in the upper left corner.
  • Black destroyed three points of White's territory in the upper right corner.
  • White captured an additional three Black stones in the upper right, so gaining five points.

In total, White gained four points.
