Variations of Our Solution (IIIb)

Tricking KataGo (Triple-Ko)

VAR (C) (A) (.2) (.2)

: ( 222mh)
White's hane at the upper edge destroys Black's potential eye there.

: (A 222mj)
Black's descent maximises his territory in the upper left corner.

As usual, Black does not really want to live at the right, instead.

:
Black is able to play the large endgame move in the lower left.

: (A 222mm)
Black is forced to add another move to defend his upper left corner. This move loses his last surplus Main Semeai Liberty.

If he occupied the liberty of of White's group at the left without having played such a protective move beforehand, he would badly suffer from his remaining weaknesses in this corner.

:
There is no valuable endgame point left on the board, so White connects her two stones.

Black plays 2/2 reductions.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain in the upper left corner in one point.
  • Black's cumulated gain in the lower left corner is five points.
  • White destroyed one point of Black's territory in the left centre.
  • Black did not capture White's two stones in the lower left, so losing four points.
  • White got an additional point of territory in the centre.
  • White did not capture Black's stone in the lower right, so losing two points.

In total, gains and losses compensate for each other.

White + 4 => White + 4
