Black plays the large endgame move at the lower edge.

:
White captures at the upper edge, keeping Black par with the Punishment Semeai Liberty Level.

:
Black also continues with the Main Semeai, capturing White's two stones in the lower right.

Black must not play any reduction.

White will use her sente after the dissolving of the hanezeki in the Capture Variation to play the hane of at the upper edge, and connect at thereafter.
She will start the Semeai Varition with this hane.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White got an additional point of territory at the upper edge.
  • Black got an additional three points of territory in the lower left corner.
  • White captured one Black stone at the upper edge, so gaining two points.

In total, gains and losses compensate for each other.

White + 4 => White + 4

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White got an additional point of territory at the upper edge.
  • Black got an additional three points of territory in the lower left corner.
  • White captured one Black stone less in the upper right corner, so losing two points.

In total, Black gained four points.

Black + 3 => Black + 7
