Variations of Our Solution (IIIb)

Tricking KataGo (Triple-Ko)

VAR (C) (A)

: ( 222nb)
Black occupies one of White's liberties in the upper left.

:
White starts the endgame in the lower left corner "early".

:
Black connects.

:
It is best now for White to connect her two stones in the lower left. However, she loses two tempi in the Main Semeai by this move.

:
Therefore, Black plays the large endgame move at the upper edge.

: ( 135 222nd)
White blocks immediately, which will benefit her in the Semeai Variation.

However, she should have played the wedge in the left centre, instead, in order to gain one point overall.

:
Black gives atari in the upper left.

Black plays 2/2 reductions.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black's got an additional two points of territory in the upper left corner
  • Black did not capture White's two stones in the lower left, so losing four points.
  • White did not capture Black's stone in the lower right, so losing two points.

In total, gains and losses compensate for each other.

White + 2 => White + 2

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black's got an additional two points of territory in the upper left corner.
  • Black captured one White stone more at the left, so gaining two points.
  • White captured one Black stone more at the right, so gaining two points.

In total, Black gained two points.

Jigo => Black + 2
