White plays the wedge in the right centre, threatening to connect his single stone to the outside.

:
Black captures White's single stone at the upper edge in return.

In the context of Dany's Ko, Joachim had found that White's previous move in the upper right cannot be used as a ko threat. This implies that Black might be able to ignore White's wedge here, too.

:
White prevents that Black will take further profit outside the Main Semeai area.

:
Black connects at the upper edge.

:
White connects in the right centre in return.

:
Black continues with the Main Semeai, as he will be unable to win the ko in the left centre.

:
White has to connect the ko - sooner or later.

Black plays 3/3 reductions.
