If White had played the two kikashi / in the top left corner, gaining one additional liberty, there would be even no "quick" ko-threats in the nakade available for Black, i.e. moves that threaten the liberty count of White's top group directly.

Again, White simply connects the ko, and wins the semeai with Black's connected group on the lower edge by one move.
