Black answers with KataGo's Solid Connection.

Here in this subvariation, due to his earlier mistake with (White's single stone will remain on the board), Black will not benefit through taking profit outside the Main Semeai Area by descending to at the upper edge, instead.

White continues with the Main Semeai.

Black must not play any reduction.

After her decision point, White will play the hane of at the upper edge, forcing Black to occupy the point of before the end of the game.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation, ...

  • Gains and losses in the lower left corner compensate for each other.
  • White got an additional point of territory in the right centre.

In total, Black lost one point.

Jigo => White + 1

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation, ...

  • Gains and losses in the lower left corner compensate for each other.
  • White captured one Black stone less in the right centre, so losing one point.

In total, Black gained one point.
