Let's compare this result (at left) with that of the Solution Sequence used so far (at right). Please note that the shadowed stones will be played later.

Here, Black will capture one White stone for two points of territory (). White's left-hand group has one liberty at .

At right, Black has also two points of territory (). Black responded to with , so White has also one liberty left at .


White will win the game by 2 points (Capture Variation, Komi = 1).

In the Semeai Variation, however, Black will capture one more White stone at right (), so White would be two points better off here.
