Here, I followed blindly at first the "standard" procedure after White's attachment with connecting underneath, without thinking twice.

Later I realised that the special conditions in the left centre, and in the lower left corner, allowed Black to connect above, at , gaining one point overall.

Black's connection ceates an additional approach-move liberty in the right centre, which will benefit Black by one point in the Semeai Variation.

Black plays 3/3 reductions.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation, ...

  • White destroyed one point of Black's territory in the left centre.
  • Black did not capture White's two stones in the lower left, so losing four points.
  • Black captured White's single stone in the upper right, so gaining three points.
  • Black destroyed one point of White's territory in the upper right corner.

In total, White gained one point.

White + 1 => White + 2

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation, ...

  • White destroyed one point of Black's territory in the left centre.
  • Black captured one White stone more in the lower left, so gaining two points.
  • White captured two Black stones more in the upper right, so gaining three points.
  • Black destroyed one point of White's territory in the upper left corner.

In total, White gained one point.
