Black connects above White's just played stone.

:
Whtie cuts Black's forces apart, also saving her stone in the left centre.

:
However, Black is able to create a second eye for his cut-off group in the left centre, also continuing with the Main Semeai.

Please note the effect of White's marked mistakes in the very beginning, which were the wedge in the left centre and the hasami-tsuke in the lower left corner.

///:

:
Had White played the "standard" kikashi in the left centre (, ), instead of the wedge, would kill Black's cut-off group in the left centre.

This implies that Black must not have played the connection above White's central attachment (), so losing one point overall.

Please note that we did not adjust the move numbers accordingly, for better comparison with the diagram above.

///:

:
Had White refrained from playing the hasami-tsuke in the lower left corner, would kill Black's corner group.

This implies that Black must not have played the connection above White's central attachment (), so losing one point overall.

Please note that we did not adjust the move numbers accordingly.

Please note that these two scenarios are independent of each other. And we know ( 58dr) that White's wedge in the left centre is a mistake on its own.
This implies that Black was able to play a move, which would have been a mistake, if White had done without the hasami-tsuke in the lower left corner.

///:

Black plays 3/5 reductions.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation, ...

  • Black got an additional two points of territory in the left centre.
  • White destroyed one point of Black's territory in the right centre.

In total, Black gained one point.

White + 2 => White + 1

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation, ...

  • Black got an additional two points of territory in the left centre.
  • Black captured one White stone less in the left centre, so losing two points.
  • White captured one Black stone less in the right centre, so losing two points.
  • White got an additional two points of territory in the right centre.

In total, gains and losses compensate for each other.

White + 1 => White + 1
