White peeps at the upper edge.

Please note that this move stops Black from pushing at before White's decision point, as it decisively affects a potential Central Semeai.

:
White plays the hane at the left edge.

:
Black descends to the left edge, also closing his corner.

:
White continues with the Main Semeai, while strengthening her shape at the top.

Alternatively, she might consider blocking at to the left, also defending her territory at the top.
Black will take territory at the bottom with the descent to in return.

Playing another hane at at the upper edge - starting the ko fight in the upper left corner - is out of the question.
Black would push at , thereafter winning the Central Semeai, and so the game.

:
Black's descent to the upper edge immobilises White's stones in the upper left corner.

:
White defends her weakness in the guzumi area.

:
Black captures White's two stones in the lower left in return.

:
The Main Semeai continues.

:
White will start the endgame "late", after her decision point, to not give Black any chances.

Please remember that Black must not play any reduction.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the super²ordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain in the upper left corner is 17 points.
  • Black's cumulated gain at the top is eight points.
  • White did not capture Black's single stone in the lower left corner, so losing two points.

In total, White gained seven points.

Jigo => White + 7
