Variations of Our Solution (IIIb)

White starts the endgame in the lower left corner.

:
It is best for White to tenuki now, and to play the hane at the upper edge.
This tenuki does not affect the overall result of the game, but benefits White in the Semeai Variation.

:
White's hane is threatening Black's territory in the upper left too much, so that he is forced to continue with the "classical" sequence at the top.

Capturing White's two stones in the lower left, instead, would be worse for him.

:
Please note that Black will play at in the Capture Variation only.

The final scores of the game will become White + 2 / Black + 4.
