Black gives atari at White's stones in the corner.

However, he loses a tempo in the Main Semeai by this move, and so must not fight a semeai with White's centre group, instead.

:
White might play this connection later, or even do with out this move.

:
White's peep at the upper edge is decisive, and guarantees her success in the Central Semeai.

:
Black starts attacking the eye shape of White's centre group.

:
It is essential for White to choose this solid connection.

:
Eventually, Black must come back and connect at the upper edge.

:
White destroys Black's potential eye in the right centre.

:
Black continues with his attack.

:
Please note that White's move increases the Punishment Semeai Liberty Level (now applied at the Central Semeai) by one move.

Black's large group at the right shared seven liberties () with White's centre group.
But there are only five outside liberties remaining, three direct ones (), and two approach-move liberties ().

Once he connected the hanezeki's tail with a move at (at the moment when there are five shared liberties remaining), White would need only two moves to occupy all of his outside liberties. Black would be unable to give atari at White's centre group.
Thereafter, White would take Black's connected bottom group off the board.

White will win the game by a large margin.
