White reduces the liberties of Black's group in the top right corner, and stops Black getting an eye.

:
This move prevents White from making two eyes for her group at the lower edge.

Black is unable to continue the Crosscut Sequence, with a move at , instead, and follow the further course of our solution on the left side. Black already lost a liberty of his top right group by , so he is now one move behind in the semeai with White's group on the left.

: (85 523)
White will gain some additional points in the Capture Variation, if she plays this move at . We here follow the classical sequence of Fujisawa Hideyuki.

: (A 524)
White cannot successfully capture the hanezeki's tail, instead, to save her bottom group. Black will capture all White's stones in the lower right, so winning the game.

:
Black can capture the three White stones now. White's group on the lower edge has only four liberties remaining, against five liberties of Black's connected group.

: (A 526)
Instead of occupying the liberties of Black's group at upper right, it does not help White to play at the bottom, for example at . Black will answer at , let live White in the lower right corner, and successfully exchanging the left half of the board for the right one.

: (A 527)
Black wins the semeai by one move, and so the game.

However, Black would even win, if he had lost a move beforehand.
