Variations of Our Solution (III)

VAR (B)

: ( 504)
White can remove Black's option in the previous sub-variation by first threatening Black's top left corner. Because Black can no longer capture White's left-hand group any longer, he is forced to reduce White's bottom group to only one eye with , to save his group in the top right. Black ends in gote, so White is able to continue her attack in the top left with .
We will show later ( 889) that Black is about 40 points ahead after White captures Black's centre group at this moment (assuming a subsequent sequence, which is quite similar to the solution). White will have to capture the entire top left corner to make up for this disadvantage.

:
Black's cut is tesuji. White must capture Black's two cutting stones now.

In principle - this means without the guzumi exchange, as a matter of course - this variation has been shown in 2010 by Cheng ([LIT. 9; page 379]).

, :
With these moves, all of Black's stones in the top left are connected and safe, for the time being.

:
White prevents Black from capturing some of her stones on the left.

:
White destroys a potential Black eye on the edge, so Black must secure life for his group in the corner with .

:
White starts an already known sequence ( 523), which eventually ends with White capturing Black's centre string with a move at . The hanezeki will be dissolved.
At the moment of White's decision to capture the hanezeki's tail, Black is about 40 points ahead. Here, White has reduced Black's top left corner by approximately 15 to 20 points, so Black will keep a very comfortable lead. White is unable to turn the tables with the desperate measure shown in this variation.
