Compared to the superordinate variation, ...

  • Black's cumulated gain in the lower left is two points (three points of territory minus one prisoner).
  • White's cumulated gain at the top left is three points.
  • At the top right, Black did not destroy one point of White territory.
  • In the centre, Black got one point of territory.
  • Also in the centre, White did not get two points of territory.

In total, White lost one point by her connection.

White + 1 => Jigo

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation, ...

  • Black's cumulated gain in the lower left is two points (three points of territory minus one prisoner).
  • White's cumulated gain at the top left is three points.
  • At the top right, White captured one Black stone less, so losing one point.
  • In the left centre, White did not get two points of territory.
  • Black got one point of territory there.
  • Black captured one White stone less in the lower left corner, so losing two points.

In total, White lost one point by her connection.
