White plays sagari at the upper edge.

Black blocks at the left edge, maximising his potential eye space.

White keeps Black from easily creating two eyes for his group.

Black gives atari at White's three stones in the corner.
Black must not mistakenly play at or at , instead.

White's throw-in / atari follows a similar idea as in the main line of this variation, exploiting Black's shortage of liberties in the corner.

Black lives in the corner.

Again, White captures several of Black's stones.
The result is similar to the comparable variation seen before, but three points worse for Black.

White will win by over ten points.
