Variations of Our Solution (IIIa)

No Early Kikashi

VAR (.1) (.3)

: ( 648ah)
White plays Dany's atekomi.

:
Black starts Dany's Ko, but does not really intend to fight it.

:
White plays her first ko threat.

:
White recaptures the ko.

; :
Black plays his kikashi in the hanezeki, and at the top.

; :
White is able to insert her kikashi in the lower left corner.

:
White answers Black's kikashi at the top.

:
Black does not recapture the ko, in order to fight a ko that he cannot win, but captures White's single stone at the upper edge, instead.

:
Black has sufficient Main Semeai Liberties to spend, so White connects her two stones in the lower left, refuting Dany's Sacrifice.

:
The Main Semeai continues.

lA and lB can be understood to be a double-ko.

Black plays 4/5 reductions.

Please assume Black's second kikashi in the hanezeki (, ) played before.

We assume that White connects the ko in the centre, while Black does so with the ko at the upper edge.

Therefore, Black will have capture at before the end of the game, due to his lack of liberties above.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White got an additional point of territory at the upper edge.
  • White did not get any territory in the left centre, so losing two points.

In total, White lost one point.

White + 1 => Jigo
