Variations of Our Solution (IIIa)

No Early Kikashi

VAR (.1) (.5)

: ( 648ap)
Black's connection occupies a liberty of White's group at the left.

:
This move - a tesuji found by Joachim - defends White's just played stone in the left centre in sente.

:
Black is forced to defend against White's threat of a snap-back after a throw-in at this point.

:
White destroys any Black hope for creating territory in the left centre, in sente.

: (A 648ar)
White connects her single stone at the upper edge.
She intends to choose Dany's Sacrifice later, and so does not want to play her kikashi and in the lower left corner, which would cost her another Main Semeai Liberty.

If she did, she would still be better than in the superordinate variation, but nevertheless unnecessarily lose one point overall, compared to the correct line of play here.

: (135 648at)
White chooses Dany's Sacrifice in the lower left, and continues with the Main Semeai.

Simply connecting with would be mistaken.

Black plays 0/2 reductions.
