No Early Kikashi

VAR (.1) (.4)

: ( 648er)
White inserts her kikashi in the lower left corner.

:
Black has to connect at the lower edge.

Please note that White just lost her potential ko threat at .

:
White answers Black's push at the top.

:
Black continues with the ko fight.

Ko: ; ;

:
Black has used all of his ko threats that pre-empt White's atari at this point; therefore, he has to erase his shortage of liberties by connecting his two stones just now.

:
White connects her single stone at the upper edge, which is the last valuable move outside the Main Semeai area.

If she connected the ko, instead, Black would capture with , winning the Semeai Variation thereafter without suffering overall.

:
Black recaptures the ko.

: (A 648et)
White is forced to continue with the ko fight.

Black will win the ko (both sides have the same amount of ko threats; , 4 x vs. 4 x , ), but White cannot simplify the issue by not fighting it until the very end, and continuing with the Main Semeai instead - due to the characteristics of Black's last ko threat in the upper right.

Ko: ; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;

; ; ; :
Each of these Black ko threats loses one tempo in the Main Semeai, as did White's ko threat before.

Finally, Black is one over par with the Punishment Semeai Liberty Level.

:
White does not have any valid ko threat left, so she continues with the Main Semeai.

:
Black connects the ko.

Black must not play any reduction.
