Variations of Our Solution (IIIa)

No Early Kikashi

VAR (.1) (.4)

: ( 648ew)
Let's assume here KataGo's variation for answering my guzumi in the upper right, the solid connection of .
Even in this case, Black has a ko threat in this area, the extension to here.

Ko: ;

:
White has to stop Black from getting an eye at the right edge.

:
The following course of the ko fight in the left centre is not affected.

; :
On the board, Black does not have any valid ko threats left.

However, we still have to compensate for our earlier mistake that is mentioned in the superordinate variation, counting White's atari in the upper left centre as an additional ko threat.
Please assume this exchange as replacement for Black's kikashi , in the lower left, which has been played too early by us, too.

:
Black recaptures the ko for the last time.

:
White does not have any valid ko threats left, and so continues with the Main Semeai.

:
Black connects the ko.

Black must not play any reduction.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White did not capture Black's throw-in in the upper right corner, so losing one point.
  • Black destroyed one point of White's territory at the right edge.

In total, White lost two points.

White + 1 => Black + 1

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White did not capture Black's throw-in in the upper right corner, so losing one point.
  • White captured an additional Black stone at the right edge, so gaining one point.

In total, gains and losses compensate for each other.

Black + 1 => Black + 1
