  • Black did neither destroy one point of White territory in the upper right corner, nor captured her single stone in the right centre, so White gained three points.

In total, Black lost one point.

White + 1 => White + 2

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black's cumulated gain at the upper edge is two points.
  • White did not capture one Black stone in the right centre, so losing two points.
  • White captured one Black stone in the right centre, instead of in the upper right corner, so the net effect is zero.

In total, Black gained four points.

White + 1 => Black + 3
