Black continues with the Main Semeai, while also defending his lower left corner.

White connects her single stone at the upper edge.

Creating territory in the left centre, instead, will allow Black to win the Semeai Variation.

Black plays 2/4 reductions.

Please assume the rejection of Dany's Sacrifice and Black's second kikashi in the hanezeki (, ) played before.

In the Capture Variation, Black will have to connect at before the end of the game.
White will start the Semeai Variation by throwing-in at .

Please note that Joachim's Final Ko in the Semeai Variation does not apply here, as Black does not have any valid ko threat.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain at the upper edge is three points.
  • White did not get any territory in the left centre, so losing two points.
  • Black's cumulated gain in the lower left corner is one point.
  • Black did not destroy one point of White's territory in the upper right corner.

In total, Black lost one point.

White + 1 => White + 2

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain at the upper edge is three points.
  • White did not get any territory in the left centre, so losing two points.
  • Black did not get any territory in the left centre, but captured one White stone there, so the net effect is zero.
  • Black's cumulated gain in the lower left corner is one point.
  • White captured one Black stone less in the upper right, so losing one point.
  • Black captured one White stone less in the lower left corner, so losing two points.

In total, Black lost one point.

White + 1 => White + 2
