Joachim's Ko-Semeai - Putting the Cart

Before the Horse (2013 - 2015)

0f - Timing of the Ko-Capture (II) -

Six Liberties for White

///:

: ( 960)
Here, White captures the ko at the earliest moment that her centre group has six effective liberties left. For the purpose of our analysis, we inserted Black's forcing sequence in the nakade on the left side beforehand.

White now has six effective liberties (3 * w, 3 * c), against ten liberties for Black's group (3 * c, 2 * g, 4 * b, k).

:
Black's group is above the Punishment Semeai Liberty Level, so Black can utilize his ko-threats on the left side successfully.

: ( 969)
White uses the filling-in of the false eyes as ko-threats.

However, filling-in the false eyes before starting the ko would not make a difference.

:
Now, Black must connect the hanezeki's tail, because his group is in danger to suffer from the Punishment Semeai.

Ko: ; ; ;

:
Black would win the ko-fight, if he had one external ko-threat available.

:
Black captures the ko for the last time and will win the game by giving atari at .

However, White's starting the ko-fight earlier had no other effect than to lengthen the ko-fight unnecessarily.
