About Ko in a Semeai Between

Two One-Eyed Groups (2012)

A Second Ko-Shape for White

(Referenced by 318)

White has as many outside liberties as before (two), but one of these is now provided in an additional ko-shape in the top left (). We discuss the case EX = 1 first ( adds to White's ko-fight liberty count).

:
White has established a double-ko. So, sooner or later, she will be able to connect the ko in the top right, and win.

///:

EX = 2
If White has two ko-fight liberties more than Black, the situation is more than desperate for Black.

:
White starts the ko on the right "early". Black desperately fights through the ko, ...

:
... only to realize that he cannot get more that a double-ko that is favourable for White.
