Black plays sagari, so pre-empting a White hane on the upper edge. This hane would create an additional ko-shape, favouring White ( 1141), because Black cannot build a larger eye in the centre any more. This is also shown in the theory chapter as FLAG 8c ( 1047).

This solid move in the centre is safe now, because Black has lost a liberty by playing already.
