KataGo likes this move in the hanezeki, which reduces the number of shared liberties in the corner from two to only one.

However, such a move usually is a mistake that loses one point overall, as it is here. Correct play of White thereafter provided, but which is not self-evident here in this line.

This is a mistake that might be a relic of KataGo's initial area scoring days, when additional prisoners (here in the nakade) did not matter.

  • White lost one point of territory at the lower edge.
  • Black's cumulated gain in the lower right corner is five points.

In total, Black gained three points.
