The Main Path of Our Solution (II)

This continues the Main Path ( 46).

The Critical Moment 197

The Critical Moment

:

This guzumi is the all decisive move, which wins Black the game. Detailed explanations of its features and consequences can be found later ( 893). This key move could have been played even before the series of kikashi, explained above, which had been our standard procedure for a long period of time.

(A 217; B 218)

Black loses one effective liberty (and so the game), should he try to get an eye by capturing one of the -stones.

(C 219)

Instead, Black might hope to win by playing the hiki of now (= "Joachim's Ko-Semeai"), or by capturing White's left side with a move at , just before the Crosscut Sequence has been finished (, , , , , ). However, he will not be successful. We display the ensuing, partially very complex, sequences as variations of our solution, even if the guzumi is not played therein. Alternatively, Black could also try to play the guzumi later.

(L 390)

Black might consider to play the kikashi in the bamboo joint, with a move at , but he will not profit from doing so. This is also true in conjunction with Joachim's Ko-Semeai, mentioned above.

: ( 432)

White decides to immediately prevent two black eyes, and thereafter follows the known professional path ( 716).

White might play elsewhere, instead - in the top left corner or on the left side ( - ). Some of these variations are very complicated ( 432).

The Main Path of our solution will continue later ( 503).

The Hanezeki Exchange ( - ) should be played now.

The just played Guzumi Exchange (, ) destroyed the potential ko shape in the upper right, so losing potential ko threats does not matter any longer. Additionally, White cannot capture the hanezeki's tail, so she does not have any counter-measures up her sleeves in this moment.

Please refer to 503 for details why our previous order of moves was mistaken.

We ask for your kind understanding that we have not been able to adjust the structure of our website according to the new correct order of moves, but only added a corresponding note in the affected variations.
