Black connects his troops solidly at the outside.

:
White pushes once at the top, in sente, reducing Black's group to only one eye.

:
Thereafter, she gives atari at the left edge.

:
White's peep at the first line prepares for an eye in the corner.

:
White erases her weakness in the upper right, also continuing with the Main Semeai.

:
Black descends to the left edge, also closing his corner, which is a seki now.

:
White throws-in at the upper edge.

Alternatively, she could descend to immediately, resulting in a change in the order of moves.

:
White will start the endgame at the left side of the board "late", i.e. after her decision point, to not give Black any chances.

:
Black plays tenuki, in order to give atari at the top.

Connecting at , instead, would be worse for him.

:
White captures at the bottom.

:
Black connects.

Please note that an atari at is not available for Black after White had captured the hanezeki's tail.

:
Black has to reduce the size of White's eye in the corner to one point, like his own at the top.

Black must not play any reduction.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the super²ordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain in the upper left corner is 21 points.
  • Black's cumulated gain at the top is eight points.

In total, White gained 13 points.

Jigo => White + 13
