Black connects his troops in the upper left corner.

White's push starts the same sequence at the upper edge as in the superordinate variation.

Please note that Black does not have any viable kikashi at the top available here.

White continues with the Main Semeai by connecting her single stone in the right centre.

Black must not play any recuction.

White will start the endgame in the lower left corner after her decision point, to not give Black any chances.

Black is forced to sacrifice one stone, in order to turn the upper left corner into a seki.

Please note that a Black move at is no atari after the hanezeki's tail has been captured by White, so White will not be forced to connect at .

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White got an additional point of territory at the top.
  • Black's cumulated gain in the left centre is one point.
  • White captured Black's stone in the lower left, so gaining two points.

In total, White gained two points.

White + 11 => White + 13
