Variations of Our Solution (IIIb)

Tricking KataGo (Triple-Ko)

VAR (C) (A) (.2) (.2)

(Referenced by 222bt)

: ( 222ev)
White cuts.

: (106 222fo)
Black has to give atari at White's just played stone in the corner.

Giving atari at White's two stones at the top, instead, reverting to Yamada Shinji's original sequence, would result in a disaster for him, due to the unsettled borders of his corner.

: (A 222fq)
It is best for White to give atari at the top.

If she continued with the endgame at the lower edge, she would lose one point overall.

: (B 222fr)
Black must capture White's single stone immediately.

Alternatively, Black can also solidly connect at here, which will result in the same final scores.

Please note the important difference to the comparable subvariation after White's capture of Black's single stone at the upper edge ( 222ee): Here, the point of is still unoccupied, so Black has an additional outside liberty that will make the difference, avoiding a fatal shortage of liberties.

:
White continues with the endgame in the lower left.

:
White's newly discovered wedge in the left centre will benefit her by one point.

:
KataGo's bad-shape move in the left centre.

:
Black has to protect this cutting point - sooner or later.

Black must not play any reduction.

After her decision point, White will play the sequence from to in the upper left.
