:
White's hasami-tsuke at the edge is a surprising submarine attack.

.
Black gives atari at the edge.

:
White gives counter-atari in the corner.

:
Black captures.

:
Black's diagonal move defends his cutting point to the right, and attacks to the left.

:
White captures the upper ko.

:
Black has to connect the lower one, as he is unable to fight any "real" ko in this corner, due to White's unbeatable ko threats in the nakade and the hanezeki.

:
It follows the "usual" endgame at the left side of the board.

:
This is the newly found wedge in the left centre that will benefit White by one point.

:

:
Black has to add a defensive move to his corner - sooner of later.

Once Black had occupied White's liberties in the upper right (), a White move at would result in capturing Black's stones above, threatening a snap-back at the right.

Capturing the ko at the left edge with will not help Black, as he is unable to win any ko in this corner.

Black must not play any reduction.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • Black occupied four points of his own territory in the upper left corner.
  • White provided Black with four additional prisoners there, so losing four points.
  • White captured an additional Black stone at the left edge, so gaining one point.
  • Black got an additional point of territory in this corner.

In total, gains and losses compensate for each other.
