Variations of Our Solution (IIIb)

Tricking KataGo (Triple-Ko)

VAR (C) (A) (.2) (.2) (.2)

(.3)

: ( 222go)
White initiates the ko fight by playing the hane into Black's corner.

This hane is preferred by KataGo (2020) in a reverse komi range from -2 to -8.

White does not lose a Main Semeai Liberty by this move, as an approach-move liberty is created in Black's upper left corner.

For a more detailed analysis, please see the comparable position after the capture of the nakade ( 222hg).

:
It is best for Black to immediately descend to the left edge, so closing the corner.

:
Black pushes once at the top.

It follows one of various viable sequences, from which I do not really know whether they contain the best play of both sides.

:
White blocks immediately, as there will be no semeai with her centre group.

: (A 222gy)
Black gives atari in the upper left corner.

Capturing at the top, instead, will be a grave mistake.

:
White connects her single stone in the right centre, so pre-empting the Central Semeai.

:
White captures the nakade as a ko threat.

Ko: : ;

:
Black answers White's previous move locally.

Ignoring White's threat, and connecting at instead, would be a grave mistake here.
White would achieve independent life at the left by playing inside the nakade, e.g. at , and thereafter win the semeai with her centre group.

:
Black gives atari at White's two stones in the lower left, so erasing several potential White's ko threats in the lower left corner.

:
White connects at the top, applying Black's strategy of erasing opponent's ko threats.

Alternatively, White might consider connecting at in the upper left corner.

:
Again, Black erases several potential White ko threats in the left centre.

:
White occupies a liberty of Black's cut-off stones, turning the ko into a direct one.

Ko: ; ;

:
White changes the location of the ko fight by this atari.

:
Black connects at the upper edge.

:
White starts the ko in the nakade.

:
White gives atari in the lower left corner.

:
White's previous move does not threaten the death of Black's group at the left, so Black connects the ko in the nakade.

:
White takes some profis at the bottom.

Ko: ; ; ;

:
Black plays a defensive move in the lower left corner.

:
White connects her two stones, so opening another ko fight in the lower left.

:
White finishes the ko in the upper left corner, as she will be unable to win the ko in the lower left.

:
Black connects in the lower left.

:
White continues with the endgame.

:
Black connects the ko in the lower left.

Black plays 6/7 reductions.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain in the upper left corner is two points.
  • White got an additional two points of territory at the top.
  • White's cumulated gain in the lower left corner ist seven points.
  • Black did not capture White's two stone in the lower left, so losing four points.
  • Black's cumulated gain at the right is five points.

In total, White gained ten points.

Jigo => White + 10
