Black plays Michael Redmond's kikashi in the bamboo joint.

With regard to the Central Semeai, playing one point lower at might have had its advantages (but cannot be played here, as White will answer at ) by occupying a shared liberty.
By playing the kikashi, Black takes his own group a liberty.

:
White can safely answer Michael Redmond's kikashi with the atari, as this reply does not lose a tempo in the Main Semeai here, where the Guzumi Exchange had been played already.

:
It is best for Black to defend his territory at the upper edge.

Connecting his hasami-tsuke stones in the upper right is no longer possible.

Pushing at (followed by , , ) is a mistake, losing two points overall.

:
White continues with the Main Semeai.

There is no need to connect at , as Black is par with the Punishment Semeai Liberty Level.

:
Black continues with occupying White's liberties at the left.

Connecting at , instead, is not possible, as this movce would push Black below the Punishment Semeai Liberty Level.

Black must not play any reduction.

:
White will start the endgame at the left side of the board after her decision point, to not give Black any chances.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the super²ordinate variation ...

  • Black got an additional two points of territory in the upper left corner.
  • Black gained an additional three points of territory in the lower left corner.
  • White's cumulated gain at the top and in the upper right corner is eleven points.

In total, Black lost six points.

Jigo => White + 6
