Tricking KataGo (Triple-Ko)

VAR (C) (A) (.2)

: ( 222ma)
Black descends to the upper edge.

: ( 109 222mf)
White connects her single stone.
Please note that this move does not lose a tempo in the Main Semeai, as it creates an approach-move liberty for her left-hand group in the upper left corner.

White might consider pushing once with before, creating several cutting points in Black's formation at the upper edge. Quite surprisingly, this measure would not affect the final scores of the game.

:
Black's connection loses one tempo in the Main Semeai, so he is par with the Punishment Semeai Liberty Level thereafter.

:
White's push at the left edge threatens to throw-in at .

Alternatively, White could immediately play at , just because Black is unable to block with . White could play at even after Black defended with , or .

:
Black defends against White's threat.

As a matter of course, Black could live at the right with . But White would throw-in at , and live at the left thereafter. Capturing the hanezeki's tail would no longer be mandatory, so White would win the game by a large margin.

:
Eventually, White answers Black's guzumi.

:
Black continues with the Main Semeai.
He does not have any other option, because he is par with the Punishment Semeai Liberty Level.

: (131 222mo)
White starts the endgame at the left side of the board.

If she connected at , instead, she would lose two points overall.
However, White might also continue with the Main Semeai, and play the endgame after the dissolving of the hanezeki.

: (A 222mp ; 132 222mq)
Black captures White's two stones just now.

Playing hane with at the upper edge, instead, would lose one point overall.

The same is true for connecting his single stone with .

:
White takes profit outside the Main Semeai area, what will benefit her in the Semeai Variation.

:
Black plays 1/2 reductions.
