Variations of Our Solution (II)

VAR (C) (B) (B)

: ( 226)
Instead of playing at on the left, Black takes the White stone on the right first. Continuing as far as , it results in a change in the order of moves to the main line of this variation.

:
However, if White plays in the top left corner, and thereafter lives with with her group at the top, Black must secure two eyes for his top right group. If we assume the sequence shown, not necessarily played successively, Black gets five points of territory (, , ). The sequences shown here, and in the next two diagrams are illustrative only; they serve the purpose to compare the territory gained.

Please note that White must end in sente locally, to enable the move that captures Black's nakade on the left side. We adjusted the sequences accordingly.

///:

:
If Black had played on the left (= ), he would get eight points of territory (2 * , 3 * ), should White start a comparable manoeuvre "late". White would lose the point of territory at 100, so the resulting effect is nine points for Black.

///:

:
If White wants to let Black live in the top right, she should do this earlier in the game. Now, Black gets only five points of territory (, 2 * ). Again, White lost one point of territory with her move at , so the resulting effect is six points for Black.
