Variations of Our Solution (II)

Black blocks entry to his top left corner and erases White's potential ko-threats there.

:
White must reduce Black's eye from above. Without Michael Redmond's kikashi in the bamboo joint played, the calm move of is taboo for her.

, :
White is able to fill in her false eyes. There will be no valid ko-threats on the left side for Black.

:
Black is unable to connect the hanezeki's tail, instead, because White's centre group still has more than five liberties left.

Occupying another shared liberty, e.g. at , is also out of the question, because this move would Black's group put below the Punishment Semeai Liberty Level.

Ko:

:
This is the only move that Black can use as a valid ko-threat. Capturing at , instead, does not work, because re-capturing will be sente for White.

:
White now uses the advantage of her larger eye, and creates a ko-threat of her own.

:
Eventually, Black has no effective ko-threats any more, so White will win the game after connecting the ko at right.

White's centre group has four liberties (2 * w, 2 * c) left, so the atari of is no valid ko-threat.

If Black played the atari of on the left side as a ko-threat, White would answer at , and win the semeai with Black's connected group on the lower edge. White's larger eye made the difference.
