White does not connect the ko on the right side, but continues to occupy Black's liberties.

This combination is a tesuji that forces Black to sacrifices his stones, if he wants to use a move at as a ko-threat, later.

White cannot capture at , instead, because Black's group has still seven liberties left.

Black captures the ko for the first time.

White's group has only two liberties left. Therefore, this is White's only valid ko-threat, giving atari on a surrounding Black group.

Black captures the ko for the last time, and White cannot stop Black from giving atari at , thus winning the game with ease.

Black did not need to resort to his suicidal ko-threat of in the hanezeki.
White's solid connection , in response to Black's kikashi in the bamboo joint, was not correct. This seems to be another counter-intuitive feature of the problem.
