Variations of Our Solution (II)

VAR (L) (B)

: ( 390)
White takes the guzumi point. Black cannot get two eyes in the upper right any more, so he will be forced to continue with the Crosscut Sequence.

:
However, capturing two gains Black an additional liberty.

:
White returns to the main path.

:
After , instead, Black will win Joachim's Ko-Semeai. Due to Black's just won additional liberty, White needed several atari-ko-threats ( 1025), but which she does not have.

The Hanezeki Exchange ( - ) must be played earlier.

Here, White will gain one point by playing an unbelievable tenuki in the hanezeki in order to attack Black's upper left corner with a hane at .

Please refer to 503 for details why our previous order of moves was mistaken.

:
White must play this approach-move sooner or later.

:
If Black answered with a move at , which is possible due to the additional liberty for his top right group, he would gain one point in the Capture Variation (Black + 6 then), but loose one point in the Semeai Variation (Black + 3 then).

: (161 411)
White might choose the Capture Variation, instead, which will end one point worse for her.

:
White gets eight points in the hasami-tsuke area (), but Black had captured two of White's stones here earlier. The net local result for White is six points. This is one point less than in our solution.

Black wins by four points.
