Variations of Our Solution (II)

VAR (L)

: ( 390)
Black's large group in the upper right has an additional liberty at . It will be a mistake to continue with occupying liberties now.

:
Black plays this large move in the upper left.

:
Black is unable to connect his stone in atari with a move at . This would lose a decisive liberty.

:
White must choose the Capture Variation to realise her territorial gain in the upper right.

Compared to the Capture Variation of our solution, White gained seven points (2 * , 3 * ) in the upper right.

Black kept two of his stones (2 * ), got three additional points of territory (3 * ) in the upper left, and destroyed one point of White's territory () on the upper edge.

In total, Black is one point better than with our solution, and wins by six points.

This means that White is three points worse, due to her mistake in the order of moves, compared with the correct line of play - the Semeai Variation of our solution.
