Connecting the hanezeki's tail is a grave mistake.

White connects the atari above.

Black is forced to live independently with his tail group by creating two eyes.

Thereafter, White returns to the upper left corner and kills Black's group.

After Black's second forcing move at in the hanezeki, he continues with the "usual" double-sente at the left side.

Black's sagari at the bottom secures three points of territory ().
White will continue with the course of the endgame of the correct line.

Black, however, must still play six additional stones ( - ) inside his own territory to capture all of White's stones at the right, saving his large group at the upper right (please remember that this group is eyeless). White added one stone at , so the net effect is five points for White.
In total, White gained two points in this line.

White will reach a drawn game.
