Black plays a protective move in the centre, following Dany's suggestion.

White forces once from below.

Dany's atekomi could be also left in reserve until after White's decision point.
In principle, this move loses one tempo in the Main Semeai. However, it also creates an approach-move liberty () for her left-hand group, so the net effect is zero.

White continues with the Main Semeai, choosing Dany's Sacrifice.

Black must not play any reduction.

White will connect her single stone at the upper edge with after her decision point.

She will start the Semeai Variation with her kikashi , in the hanezeki.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain at the upper edge is three points.
  • White did not get any territory in the left centre, so losing two points.

In total, Black lost one point.

Black + 2 => Black + 1

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White's cumulated gain at the upper edge is three points.
  • White did not get any territory in the left centre, so losing two points.

In total, Black lost one point.
