Variations of Our Solution (IIIa)

No Early Kikashi

VAR (.1) (.1)

: ( 648ab)
White prevents Black's kikashi in the hanezeki, intending to choose Dany's Sacrifice in the lower left later.

: (C 648cp; 131 648cq; D 648cr)
Black plays his kikashi at the top first.

Black might consider playing KataGo' solid connection , instead, achieving the same final scores.
Black could also capture White's single stone at the upper edge just now, resulting in a change in the order of moves.
Dany suggested playing at in the left centre. However - according to our analysis - this move does not really work, but benefits White by one point overall.

:
White answers Black's push immediately.

If she inserted her kikashi , in the hanezeki, instead, she would decrease her score in the Capture Variation in some of the following subvariations.

:
Black gives atari at White's two stones in the lower left.

: (131 648cs)
White continues with the Main Semeai.

She intends to choose Dany's Sacrifice; therefore it does not make sense to insert her own kikashi in the lower left corner.
White does not want to connect her single stone at the upper edge, either. Black would gain in the Capture Variation.
Please also note that White's central attachment at is not feasible here (Black would answer at slC), contrary to the subvariation above, where the atari at White's two stones in the lower left is played "late".

:
Black captures White's single stone at the upper edge.

:
The Main Semeai continues.

:
Finally, Black captures White's two stones in the lower left.

:
This move is chosen to make a sequence possible just now that would really be played after White's decision point.

Please note that Black is already par with the Punishment Semeai Liberty Level, and therefore must not lose any single move in the Main Semeai.

:
White gives atari at Black's stones above.

:
White secures two points of territory in the left centre.

The areas at the top, and in the left centre, are miai here.

Black must not play any reduction.

White will start the Semeai Variation with her kikashi , in the hanezeki.

Capture Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White lost one point of territory at the upper edge.
  • In the left centre, Black lost one point of territory, while White gained two points, so her cumulated gain is three points.
  • Black's cumulated gain in the lower left corner is three points.
  • Black captured two White stones in the lower left, so gaining four points.

In total, White lost four points.

White + 2 => Black + 2

Semeai Variation:

Compared to the superordinate variation ...

  • White lost one point of territory at the upper edge.
  • In the left centre, Black lost one point of territory, while White gained two points, so her cumulated gain is three points.
  • Black's cumulated gain in the lower left corner is three points.
  • In the lower left, Black captured two White stones less, so losing four points.
  • White's cumulated gain in the hanezeki is three points.

In total, White gained seven points.

Black + 4 => White + 3
